Great places for a couple hours riding. Blue trail can be a bit basic but is well maintained and good for spinning out the legs. The red route is really the highlight of the area though, a good mix of jumps, tech and flow lines through the route. The shop itself has the basics to keep you going and were very happy to discuss cycling in the local area.
Perfect for progression and riding with kids
Perfect trail centre for progression and family riding. My 7-year-old twins have gone from greens to reds here, with favourites like Blue 11/12 and Tank Traps. Great facilities, year-round riding, and enough variety to keep it fun every visit. Can get busy weekends, but overall spot on.
Outside of riding on my bike everywhere as a kid, as an adult I’m relatively new to mountain biking, but after riding a few trail centres across the UK, I feel lucky to have Swinley Forest (relatively) on my doorstep.
I’ve been bringing my twin boys (now 7) here since September, and it’s been incredible for their progression. They’ve gone from greens to blues and are now confidently starting to explore reds. The trails here are perfect for building skills, enough challenge to keep things exciting, but not so technical that it knocks confidence.
Each of them has found their own favourites, which says a lot about the variety. One absolutely loves Blue 11 & 12, while the other is always hyped for Tank Traps, which guarantees smiles every time we ride it.
As a family, we typically spend 2–3 hours riding around 14km. We’ll start on the greens as a warm-up, move into the blues, then mix things up with a lap of Tank Traps and the Jubilee Line etc, or head over to Red 1–3 before looping back into the blue circuit. It’s a great mix that keeps things fresh and progressive.
It’s also been a solid foundation for riding more challenging areas like Surrey Hills and Coed y Brenin, where the terrain is more demanding. Seeing the boys’ confidence grow has been brilliant and it’s what’s really fuelled my own love for the sport.
Outside of weekly family trip, I now ride here weekly (sometimes twice, even in the rain), and the trails hold up really well year-round.
Facilities are another big plus:
• Parking is easy and reasonably priced
• Great café for a post-ride refuel
• On-site bike shop with friendly, helpful staff
• Bike wash is a huge bonus saves the job at home
• Coaching, guides, and support available on-site if you want to build skills further
A couple of honest points:
• It can get busy on weekend mornings
• Some more advanced riders might find parts of the blue trail a bit tame… but the reds bring a few pleasant surprises
That said, for me and my family, it’s been spot on. It’s helped us build confidence, skills, and consistency, and made riding together genuinely fun.
We haven’t used the bike park yet, but it’s definitely next on the list.
Overall: A brilliant all-round trail centre, especially for families, newer riders, and anyone progressing toward intermediate level and beyond.
