Mountain View Manor guesthouse is perfectly positioned on Mountain Drive and overlooks the magnificence of the historic little town that is Grahamstown. We are located just outside of town on the N2 towards Port Elizabeth. Look out for our signposted turn-off on the Waainek Road as you reach the avenue of tall bluegum trees, just before the road curves sharply towards Howison’s Poort.
With spectacular views over Grahamstown and towards the coast, Mountain View Manor makes the best of its beautiful natural surroundings. Come and rest your soul and experience the feeling of freedom on our mountain top.
Activities
At Mountain View Manor you have nature’s playground at your doorstep. Surrounded by natural bush and forests hosting a rich variety of plant and bird life, you can explore the network of trails and country roads however you desire. The choice of outdoor activities abounds and the whole family can take part.
Take a traditional hike on Dassie Krantz trail, don’t forget to take your binoculars and camera with you.
Enjoy a horseback ride arranged through Settler’s Horse Trails.
Explore the trails on a mountain bike and put your balance, agility and pedalling power to the test in these magnificent surroundings – or strap on a pair of running shoes and take a brisk jog.
And when the energy has been spent, replenish with the spoil of alfresco dining and indulge in a sumptuous picnic hamper.
If you are casting further afield for things to do, you can perfect your swing at the Grahamstown Golf Club or throw yourself into an adrenaline boosting skydive with EP Skydivers. Fraser’s Camp Adventures offer a family adventure on their zipline tours, taking in over 70km of forested gorge on the Fish River Valley.
This part of the Eastern Cape is also wildlife territory and, within a 100km radius of Grahamstown you have the pick of some of the Eastern Cape’s finest nature reserves, including:
Bigfoot territory at Addo Elephant National Park
Amakhala Game Reserve
River cruises and excellent birding at Emlanjeni Private Game Reserve
The rugged Great Fish River Reserve
Kariega Private Game Reserve
Kwandwe Private Game Reserve
Lalibela Game Reserve
Schotia Tooth & Claw Night Safari
Shamwari Game Reserve – the Cape’s premier Big 5 reserve
Thomas Baines Nature Reserve, the home of Tom the Rhino
Mountain View Manor is also the perfect situation from which to explore the National Arts Festival and the historic haunts of Grahamstown, known variously as the City of Saints, a seat of education and South Africa’s festival capital.
