In 1976, a group of eight New Marlborough residents, enthusiastic about preserving the unique natural resources of our town, jointly purchased 278 acres beside Thousand Acre Pond. In 1983, they formed the New Marlborough Land Trust, with Dr. Rita Mathews as president, and donated the acreage to the new organization. Today the Land Trust actively stewards some 885 acres across multiple properties.
