Nestled on the eastern slopes of Massanutten Mountain in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Resort is a four-season destination offering outdoor recreation, lodging, dining, and family-friendly activities throughout the year. Spanning approximately 6,000 acres near McGaheysville in Rockingham County, Virginia, the resort is well known for its winter snowsports, indoor and outdoor water parks, golf, hiking, and mountain biking. Its central location places visitors within easy reach of Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest, and the city of Harrisonburg.
Mountain biking has become one of Massanutten Resort's signature warm-weather activities, offering two distinct riding experiences that cater to a wide range of riders. The Massanutten Bike Park is a lift-served gravity park featuring purpose-built downhill trails ranging from beginner-friendly flow trails to advanced technical descents with berms, jumps, rock gardens, and natural terrain. Chairlift access allows riders to maximise their time on the trails, while bike rentals, professional instruction, and rider services make the park accessible to newcomers and experienced gravity riders alike.
Complementing the Bike Park is the Western Slope Trail System, a separate network of approximately 30 miles (48 km) of pedal-powered singletrack winding through the forests on the western side of Massanutten Mountain. Developed and maintained in partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition, the Western Slope offers cross-country, trail, and enduro-style riding characterised by sustained climbs, fast descents, rocky terrain, and a variety of loop options for intermediate and advanced riders. Seasonal shuttle services, rentals, and trail passes are available through the resort and its partners.
Beyond mountain biking, visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter months, championship golf, hiking, ziplining, family adventure activities, swimming facilities, restaurants, shopping, and a wide range of accommodation options. Whether visiting for a weekend getaway or an extended holiday, Massanutten Resort offers year-round recreation with mountain biking serving as one of its premier outdoor attractions.
