North-West Mountain Bike Club is a Sligo-based mountain-bike club serving riders throughout northwest Ireland. The club caters for cross-country, enduro and downhill mountain biking, supporting riders through organized rides, skills development, events and competitive racing. It has an active presence on the local, national and international mountain-bike scene and provides a community for riders of different ages and ability levels.
The club has played an important role in the development of mountain biking in County Sligo and the wider northwest. It was a key local partner in the development of Coolaney National Mountain Bike Centre, working alongside Coillte, Sligo County Council and Coolaney Development Company. Club members contributed significant volunteer effort during the development of the centre, helping turn the long-planned project into one of Ireland's national mountain-bike destinations.
North-West Mountain Bike Club's activities extend beyond trail development. The club organizes group rides, training and skills activities, participates in mountain-bike racing and promotes greater participation in the sport. It has also worked with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership on initiatives designed to introduce new riders to mountain biking and increase participation among women and other groups.
The club's involvement at Coolaney is particularly significant for Trailforks. While Coillte is the underlying land manager, North-West Mountain Bike Club is an important local mountain-bike organization involved in trail development, advocacy, rider engagement and stewardship. The partnership between the club, Coillte, Sligo County Council and the local community has helped establish Coolaney as a major mountain-bike destination in the northwest of Ireland.
