I really wish I could give this shop a better review. It's so close to my house and I know a couple people that work there, but honestly I can't. The shop is very disorganized and crowded with stuff, it's hard to find what you find. Also, a lot of the staff seems to not really know what they're doing. Service takes a while, is overpriced, and often not done very well. The head staff is not the most social, most times when I walk in I'm either ignored or directed towards hardrocks, simply because I don't look like the elitist racer snobs they are used to dealing with. The only brand they stock is specialized, and they are much more expensive than Eriks, which is only a short drive away. Overall I have not been impressed with my experiences there and would definetly recommend Eriks bike and board shop over Atkins to anyone in the area
Whoever midbestdj is must work for Eriks. Not only is everything he said wrong, he also specifically mentioned Eriks as the best alternative when most people in madison know that to just not be true. I've been to both. Atkins is a friendly environment filled with people who love fixing bikes. Everytime I go in there I learn something new as they walk you through it and explain/show exactly where the problems are. It's incredibly reasonably priced; a lot of the stock merchandise is cheaper than what you'll find elsewhere. Erik's has some great people working for them too, but prices tend to be inflated.
When I brought mine in they quoted me about $90 to steam clean/replace several moving parts. When they then found more problems they called me and explained my options of either spending more money on it or looking into buying a different bike. They ended up not charging me for their assessment when I decided to not fix it. They even offered to freely look at any used bike I might find on craigslist.
Overall great people, I would highly recommend.

This is one of the very best bike shops in Wisconsin. The talent for bicycle repair is second to no other bike shop.
