How many ways can we describe the Ozarks in Missouri? It has mountains, hills and knobs, valleys filled with springs, crystal-clear streams, shut-ins and waterfalls, trimmed by bluffs and riddled with caves. The Ozark Trail (OT) will show you the way to hardwood forests, stands of pines, savannas filled with black-eyed susans and glades dotted by purple coneflowers. It is home to deer, turkey, bobcat, bear, songbirds and bald eagles. It’s all right there in Missouri’s rugged backyard.
The OTA has taken the lead in the maintenance and construction of the Ozark Trail. Formed in 2002, the volunteer based OTA is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization with a mission to “Develop, maintain, preserve, promote and protect the rugged natural beauty of the Ozark Trail”. Visit our website for tons of maps and information about the OT, check out upcoming trail events or to become a member! www.ozarktrail.com
The trail crosses many different land steward’s property. Of the 13 OT sections, 10 have mountain bike access. The OTA supports multi-use trail where appropriate but as guests on the lands that the OT traverses, we defer to the land steward’s wishes for the type of use on their lands.
