The Miami Valley Mountain Bike Association (MVMBA) is a nonprofit mountain-bike advocacy and trail-stewardship organization serving the Miami Valley of Southwest Ohio. MVMBA is an official International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) chapter dedicated to expanding mountain biking through the creation and maintenance of sustainable, multi-use natural-surface trails, community events, education, and advocacy.
MVMBA maintains approximately 32 miles of mountain-bike trails in the Dayton, Yellow Springs, and Troy areas. Its trail network includes the mountain-bike systems at John Bryan State Park, Huffman MetroPark, and the Troy Mountain Bike Area, providing a range of riding from beginner-friendly, flowing singletrack to more challenging terrain.
The organization's history is closely connected with the development of mountain biking in the Miami Valley. MVMBA grew from the volunteer effort that established the first mountain-bike trails at John Bryan State Park. In partnership with Five Rivers MetroParks, the organization later helped develop the MoMBA (MetroParks Mountain Bike Area) at Huffman MetroPark, bringing purpose-built mountain-bike trails into Dayton. The Troy Mountain Bike Area was subsequently brought under the MVMBA umbrella, expanding its stewardship responsibilities within the region.
Trail stewardship is at the core of MVMBA's work. Members and volunteers contribute thousands of hours to trail construction and maintenance while promoting sustainable riding practices and educating trail users about responsible use. The organization also hosts rides, races, social events, skills activities, and other programs designed to introduce riders of all abilities to mountain biking and strengthen the local trail community.
MVMBA is also affiliated with the Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance (OMBA), the statewide coalition formed by Ohio mountain-bike organizations to share experience, promote sustainable trail development, and advocate collectively for mountain-bike access with land managers and elected officials. MVMBA's participation connects its local trail work with broader efforts to develop and protect mountain biking throughout Ohio.
Through its combination of volunteer stewardship, sustainable trail construction, advocacy, education, events, and partnerships with public-land managers, MVMBA plays a central role in making the Miami Valley an important mountain-bike region in Ohio. Its work complements the area's extensive paved regional bikeway system by providing a parallel network of natural-surface trails for mountain biking and other trail-based recreation.
