SWCCA was originally formed because an entity was needed to lease the state trust land that a large portion of Phil's World was located on. This requires a yearly lease payment and an extremely high annual payment for insurance. Without this a significant portion of Phil's world trails would have been lost forever. This is the reason for the Phil's world use fee.

With the exponential growth of mountain biking in the area the bike club naturally expanded into other areas which include trail maintenance, race hosting, land management issues and of course trying to get more trails approved and built. The SWCCA now has an extensive collection of trail tools used for trail maintenance as well.

Membership dues help pay for the Phil's World lease, required insurance for the lease, Trail tools, Website expenses, and other trail maintenance or club expenses.
