PWC NCT Snowshoe to Lookout Mountain event

The Peter Wolfe Chapter of the North Country Trail invites you to join us on an out-and-back snowshoe hike from Old Victoria to Lookout Mountain this coming Sunday afternoon, April 12th. The snowshoe will start at 2 pm Eastern daylight time from the Old Victoria townsite, about 3 miles southwest of Rockland.

If you're participating in the NCTA's Hike 100 Challenge, you'll be able to add 2.8 miles to your total.

Be sure to bring snowshoes, poles, water, a snack, and some friends. It's possible, but not likely, that the snow on this trail is hard packed, in which case we can just use boot cleats, but be sure to bring snowshoes, as it is unlikely to be hard packed.

If the road down to the Victoria Dam is clear, those interested can also check out Victoria Dam Falls after the hike.

If the weather or road conditions are deemed too unsafe or unfavorable, those on the PWC's email list will be notified before noon Eastern time on Sunday if we have to cancel. Those not on the email list can follow the Peter Wolfe Chapter on Facebook or refer to the comments on this event for updates. Note that updates will only be sent out or posted if the snowshoe is canceled.

If you wish to carpool from Houghton, you can meet us at 12:45 p.m. at the Copper Country Mall, in the corner of the parking lot next to the Ford dealership and Highway M26. Otherwise, feel free to meet us at the trailhead.

Please also let us know if you would like to help us maintain the NCT. This winter saw three major blizzards in the Western UP that brought down countless trees and branches across our chapter’s trail segments. As a result, it could be June before the trail is fully cleared. Any help on the trail is greatly appreciated
