This area has been inhabited since ancient times. lies in the central part of Albania. The area of the district is 997 square km. The maximum altitude above sea level is 2246 meters which is Maja e Dejës. The climate in the Mati valley is approximately the average of the whole climate of Albania, it is related to the Mediterranean climate zone which is characterized by hot and dry summers with excellent sun and relatively mild winters in the valley and somewhat harsh in the mountain range. The average annual temperature in the Mati Valley is about 14 degrees Celsius on the hottest days of July, reaching 38 degrees. The warmest month is July with an average temperature of 24 degrees, while the coldest is January with an average temperature of +4 to 0 degrees Celsius. Sunny days occupy 88-90% of the days of the year.
