Smithfield is a name all core mountain bikers know as it is the highest profile rainforest trail system in world. The iconic mountain bike park was Australia’s first world championship venue nearly 20 years ago and is ahead of its time again with its recreation for the 2014 and 2016 UCI Mountain Bike World Cups and the 2017 World Mountain Bike and Trials Championships. Just 20 minutes drive north of Cairns Airport, this spectacular rainforest network of trails in Smithfield Regional Park offers some of the most fun-filled climbs and descents in the country for mountain bike riders. Trails sculpted out of volcanic clay twist their way through magnificent vine-wrapped jungles. With names like Wobbegong, Flat Snake, Blue Marlin, Cuscus and Barramundi, many of these trails hug the jagged ridges overlooking the Great Barrier Reef. The park has 60km of trails including UCI level technical short and long climbs plus technical descents for advanced riders.
