SaveTripi is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Messina , Sicily, southern Italy. It is located on the site of Abacaenum, an ancient Sicel town.
Regarding the origin of Tripi, the historian Maurolico asserts that "it was once called Tripium or Steropium by one of the Vulcan smocks called Sterope".
There is no news of this new settlement until 1300 when, under the reign of Pietro d'Aragona, Tripi was granted as a fief to Admiral Ruggero di Lauria, who became a lord. Subsequently he, having been deprived of his possessions, ceded the town to Ruggero di Brindisi, a Templar knight. Around 1340, the town was subject to Matteo Palazzi who, forced to leave Sicily, became Giovanni Infante's possession. A short time later, Matteo Palazzi was recalled in his homeland, and he regretted his possessions.
In the meantime, Luigi D'Angiò, prince of Naples, arrived in Messina, who, having died Palazzi, entrusted the possessions of Tripi and other countries to Niccolò Cesaro, as a reward for some favors.
In 1392 Raimondo Guglielmo Montecateno asked the village as a gift to the Martyrs of the house of Aragon, but as he had not complied with his duties, he lost the possession, which was granted in 1408 to Luigi Aragona, as feudal lord.
Tripi subsequently passed from the Aragon to the Villaraut, in fact in 1438 it became property of Giovanni Villaraut, praetor of Palermo, and in 1470 of his son Ludovico. Later they alternated Federico Ventimiglio, Stefano Gaetani and his son Pietro, who, in 1570, sold the town to Giacomo Antonio and Porto Sarniniali. In 1600 Tripi is owned by the Marino, dukes of Gualtieri, who, following the contraction of some marriages, ceded it to the Grifeo, princes of Partanna, who in turn sold it, in 1760, to Ludovico Paratore, prince of Patti and lord of Oliveri. The country exported wine, oil and silk, in 1813 a peculiar frumentario was also founded which, in 1839, was transformed into an agricultural estate for wheat.
The rest is modern history. Over the years, the country has suffered a slow and incessant migration; the most during the summer come back for the love of their country and contribute, together with the locals, to make it vital and welcoming.
