Description:
If axle deep moon dust is your thing, you'll love this trail. The nearby mining company was scraping the dust away and spreading gravel the day I rode the trail, but it's still brutal to climb in spots--we're talking over a half foot of flour-like bone-dry dust. Climbing a couple thousand vertical feet felt more like ten thousand by the time I was done.

 I ride this trail up to the summit and down to the city of Mapleton. Yep, it starts with 4 miles of hike-a-bike, but for me, the 8 mile descent makes up for it. Great views, I rode it on May 5, 2021 and there was almost a mile of packed winter snows on the trail deep into Mapleton Canyon.
