Description:
Rode from the Soldier Creek Campground trail head down 2.7 miles and pushed/pedaled back up. That was only 1360ft out of 3900 ft of total elevation loss available on Grant Goudy Ridge Trail. Decided to ride this trail based on the knowledge that the Fort Grant Prison Fire/Trail Crew had recently cleared the trail out of dead fall and brush as well as some tread revival. The trail like many in the Pinalenos mtns have very sharp elevation loss and many tight switch backs. This is an adventure ride due to it's remote location and steep and technical sections of trail on a bike both up and down. Probably the best way to approach this trail if you're thinking about riding down it would be push/pedal up with your bike. Which would be BRUTAL. The alternative is to set up a nearly 2 hour one way shuttle from Fort Grant to Soldier Creek Campground. It's probably best left as a hike. If you are interested in trails in the Mt Graham Pinalenos area please check in with Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists are they are actively working with the Safford Ranger District to revitalize trails in the forest that were historically used by mountain bikers. Lady Bug Trail and Round the Mountain/Noon Creek are good to go. See the trail forks reports on those trails for more info.

Climbed on October 1st. I could see the hard trail all the way (almost-occasional quick Garmin use) by squinting at the flat hard center-ground. High side grass first 2 1/2 miles. Doable all the way
