Sturtevant Trail Report - Dry - May 15, 2022

Dropping in from the observatory does not indicate closed. It should. There is major erosion. Dry loose loam covered in leaves and pine cones litter the trail. In some sections, you can barely identify the trail. Downed trees and branches, overgrown brush is everywhere. But worse than overgrown vegetation is swarms of mosquitoes from observatory all the way down to campsites. The bottom of Sturtevant is definitely closed. The paved climb back to the main road has boulder/rock fall everywhere. This place feels abandoned and nature is reclaiming its facilities. The road entrance has the following sign posted. This sign should be posted at the observatory trail head.
