Description:
Trip Report from 8/13/2022
Started at the top of Monte Carlo and hiked along the ridge until we reached the steep decline which leads to the intersection with Trail #53 to Monte Cristo.
Walking along the top of the ridge, there are some pretty great views to be had just off the beaten path. On one side you can see all the way out to the Windmills detailing the rolling hills near Centerville. On the other there is a fantastic view of Mt. Hood and the spine of the Indian Heaven Wilderness, most notably Lemei Rock and East Crater. You can also see the blunted tip of Mt. St. Helens in the distance on a clear day.
Our favorite viewpoint we found was a rocky outcropping which extends a good 15 feet off the top of the ridge on the west side, giving you an even better panoramic view.
Even if you chose not to stray from the path, however, you will still get great views of Mt. Adams as it gradually appears over the top of the hill, appearing in all its glory just before you descend the North end of the ridge. Will definitely return to this area again!
