Description:
A good route and ride (20km YELLOW) through the Eastern Cape Valley Bushveld. Love all the bridges crossing the River, (this estuary has a special place for me as it was my PhD sampling site).
The following is a report and suggestions (not criticism).
Soft sections and somewhat sandy due to recent rains. Certain sections washed into ruts. I take my helmet off to anyone who safely gets down the concrete section to the river (you'll know about it :-P ) It hadn't been ridden since November apparently according to the ride book. Spider Web central.... If you are riding with anyone... let them go first Big Golden Orb spiders. Tubeless is recommend for the thorns of the Eastern Cape. Markings mostly there. The idea of PVC piping on pegs and trees is great, but maybe Yellow (20km) and Red (30km) rings are not exactly the ideal colour for the Eastern Cape Valley Bushveld (especially when dry). Could do with some more (or replace lost ones) especially on the long sections after the small section actually on trail forks, where you are thinking "am I on the correct bike track or wrong cow track " Some of the sharper turns maybe need some forewarning. Sharp left when going up the first road around the corner, the sharp left going up the cow track hill on the return where there is a split in the track. Maybe also an extra warning just before turning RIGHT off the "main" road. When cycling along the road there is a fence crossing in the left that is a lot more visible u til.you get to the fence bridge on the right which is just before it...
I haven't done the 30km and there is a section down by the river I have "missed" according to Strava's heat maps but maybe it is only hiking trail ? To be checked on another ride.
