Description:
Rode the trail today. The first mile of the climb is rideable, but it then becomes a hike-a-bike for a long while(it's a massive eroded boulder field). The trail mellows out and finally becomes rideable again before reaching the lean-to.
After the lean-to, the trail starts descending relentlessly. It is rough and there is a huge rut in the middle, completely eroded. About 80% is rideable if you focus and have good bike handling. Some sections feel like going down a dry river bed. Passed the rut, the rest of the trail is a sweet, high-speed descent.
There are maybe a dozen trees down in total on the trail. Not too bad considering the length and location of the trail. It is possible to walk around most of the trees without too much trouble.
I feel like this trail has a lot of potential. The view of the pond at the lean-to is very beautiful and this trail has some very interesting elevation gains/losses when compared to other trails in the area.
It could become a great ride if the loose branches and dead trees could be brushed away, and if the problematic sections (where the trail has eroded too much) were re-worked (like moving the biggest boulders aside).
It's the current condition of the trail that makes it a challenging double-black run. Otherwise, if the trail received the work it needs, it could be a moderate-to-expert run.
