May 22, 2025 Bear Creek Trail Report

Putting Significant Issue rather than Closed as you can still ride the lower part of the trail (first ~1.7 miles is passable, up to 5,700ft elevation). The top of Bear Creek burned badly - I couldn't find it from Slate Mtn last summer. Tried riding up from the bottom this week. There are about 20 trees down. The burn area starts a mile from the bottom at 5,100ft. Around 5,700ft the trail disappears completely where it hits the ridge top and there is no bench cut to define it. Someone has tied up ribbons but even those are hard to follow. There is no sign of any tread. Within the burn area the trail is very brushy but passable. This used to be a fast section of trail but now has lots of on/off due to deadfall and must look for sniper rocks hidden in the grass. See pics.
