Jul 29, 2025 Saddle Up! Trail Report

 redid the roller at the top of sidewinder that lines up for the three jumps and also raked in two other lines that lead to the left step down and middle gap jump. filled in the support wall of the gap ramp with branches and lots of sand and filled around the gap landing with branches and sand to help support it from erosion. might saw the fallen tree out of the gap and build it into the support for the gap ramp to make the jump less awkward. i didnt add any new earth to the jump on the right yet but it needs some to be less abrupt for how long modern bikes are. some support branches buried along the ramp platforms to keep the earth in line from erosion. went home at 630 because the bugs were ignoring my Off! spray. spread some sand on the landings hoping some rain will help it smooth out and make clay with the dark soil.

 added some more dirt to the gap jump ramp and landing pad. added sand to the run-ups to the three jumps to smooth out the erroded soil. added lots of dirt to the jump ramp on the right and sand to its landing strip. bench cut the landing to the last solo jump on the left of the dirt pack area because the entire zone was eroded; then used that soil to make the landing zone to the eroded jump one straight line. then extended the jump with big flat stones and added dirt to it and changed it into a long platform drop that can land into the steep if you are going fast enough.

 i cut the fallen tree out of the dirt gap jump. it wasnt doing much of anything regarding holding up the earth for the jump ramp, there were other logs behind it doing the heavy lifting; either way, i piled the cut pieces against the ramp support wall and then put big stones under and in between all of it and then poured buckets of soil and sand into the smaller gaps. added another bucket of soil to the gap landing where a lot of bike tire tracks were to help make it less awkward and just more fun.
added another big flat stone to the final solo platform drop to make it taller and closer to flat with the horizon to help get distance into the steep landing.
started piling some branches in between the big boulder drop and the landing pad for when i start building that up with stones and soil to make it slightly less intimidating; its a huge drop and im not sure anyone even does it anymore.
started collecting stones for the creek bed and i have 50 feet of four inch perforated flex pipe to make a wide bridge with. pulled the dead tree stump out of the creek bed wall.

 first stone bridge in progress from the path that follows the platform drop i built from the eroded solo jump line. it has 8 perforated drain pipes that are 3 feet four inches long and four inches wide in it and its just a prototype test build to see how it will hold up after the next winter melts away. ill try to keep creek erosion to a minimum and hope to dam up the side at the bottom of the stone bridge so the creek doesn't get any wider towards ursula and leonard street.

 tried to learn the middle gap jump here last friday and cased the landing hard four times. i want to master this trail section so to avoid damaging the landing i made a sand crash case pad in the gap hole. sorry i just cant risk crashing my body or breaking my bike to learn how to ride my dh bike better on local trail jump.

 -a few buckets of stones gravel sand to damn the low wet side of the leading stone bridge to stop erosion through the exit path to the street
-a few slab stones to help ride off the right boulder side stone bridge of the exit of the trail (this used to be easy but the erosion made it way too chunky to ride)
-finished the sand case crash pad in the gap jump (if this is supposed to be a blue trail then bike damaging hole gap jumps shouldnt exist, not to mention you had to get significant height to hurdle your bike over the tree log that was laying in the gap high off the ground)
-added a top crown to the gap jump ramp with slab stones that are held in place with sticks that are nailed into the support wall and two buckets of 70/30 soil/sand mix
-remade the step down jump into a platform drop on the right side exit line- find it by following the twin S berms after doing any of the first three jump- roll down the steep 3 foot boulder slab and then youll find the plat form drop. this leads to the right exit stone creek bridge.

-happy sending (might rebuilt 15 foot boulder gap drop landing some time this year, its a doozy)

 redid the important berms on saddle up! quite a bit and only need to rebuild one more. just want the old logs that make these berms have some support with newer logs and dirt and roots
