Aug 31, 2025 Old Coast Road Trail Report

Very dry and dusty. I rode it on a gravel bike w/ 42mm tires, which in the present loose, dry, and dusty condition made for some cautious descending. A short travel hard tail is probably ideal at the moment so you could open up the throttle a bit more on the downs. Then again, that would be a bummer on the Rt. 1 return leg, so it's a toss-up. Anyway, a truly great ride with gorgeous redwoods and good coastal views. The second substantial climb (assuming one is riding a loop with the Old Coast Rd and Rt. 1 counterclockwise) is a bit of beast.
