 I know that HWY 38 is closed most of the way, but I wondered - is the upper access to Middle Control from the highway blocked? Thanks.

 It shouldn't be. I think the Hwy 38 closure is at or just beyond where MCR drops down. When I drove past there a few months ago there was just a sandwich board sign at the entrance to it that said Road Closed. Worst case now, the gate could be closed. But that's easy to get past on a bike. There were recent vehicle tracks down to the washout spot so the road must be passable to there.
