Description:
Very much overgrown starting from about 0.5 km from the end of road, difficult to get through at times. The trail was still surprisingly straightforward to follow and decently well marked. I went for about 2km+ in the overgrowth optimistically hoping it would open up at some point, it did not. Turned around close to 950m contour line.

Good on ya for giving it a go. What do you think it'd take to clear the trail? Chainsaw? Brush cutters? Machete? Sounds like regardless of the tool, it'd be a big job, eh?

Good question! I've just added a photo of the "trail" from where I turned around, in case it helps any.

My gut feel is that heavier hedge shears (extendable likely best) would get through most of it, a hand saw would be good for any of the bigger stuff. The grunt of it started around 700m elevation. It would be a decent amount of work for sure, a couple of people to share the work might be best.

I was really hoping to get to the turn at 1000m since it looked like it might a different aspect there and maybe less overgrowth.

There was also a couple of trees down about 300-400m from the end of the road that blocked the trail. One could easily be handled with a hand saw, the other would need a chainsaw to fully deal with, but a handsaw could easily take a few blocking branches out and make it easily passable.

@atomicspike: good info. I've got chainsaw(s) so I could get the big ones. How is the road to the trailhead these days? I don't have a truck anymore ; would be in the AWD wagon. It can go most places, but big cross ditches are not doable.

I just checked again and remembered the gate is closed and that road is pretty rough. I'll see if I can borrow some means of travel.

@b-roc: For what is worth, I felt the road was in pretty solid condition. No washouts or waterbars or anything like that - at least not what I can remember. It seemed to have solid drainage throughout. It is for sure steep in areas though.
