Blocked due to tree clearing. I managed to get a few of them off the trail, but it'd take an hour with a decent tree saw to clear this off. view

 Areas exposed to the sun require regular maintenance. I hope those thorns haven't grown back at least.

 holy cow, that was intense. i think i lost more blood to those thorns than all the mosquitoes combined all summer. i have not seen that particular plant before, to my recollection. it seems like a bamboo almost, some of the stalks were by now 3/4" thick. but then with the barbs just like a rose bush. a bizarre combo. i blame this sudden profusion on the clear-cut. will hit it again first thing in the spring and hope to get it under control.
