Description:
This was a very nice hike through an absolutely gorgeous primarily large cedar tree forest with incredible mossy floors. Unfortunately the lake is down about 5 m so the shoreline is long, rocky and muddy. In order to access the lake if you want to swim you have to walk quite a ways along the side shore but the trail is good there. At the first little muddy bay we were able to access the lake and have a good swim and it was absolutely marvelous. Most postings around the Nakusp area call this a 5-hour outing. We are quite fit and only had day packs and we could easily have done this in two and a half hours. 5 hours would be someone who is not particularly fit and could probably barely walk 10 km in an hour. 590 meters total elevation gain and 12.25 km including the trip along the lake. Highly recommended before splurging on the hot springs.
