Description:
Dear ACC members,
The Alpine Cycling club has received the following advice from Alpine Shire,
Council received a report from a member of the public this week about suspect fragments of waste material in Pioneer Park which he considered might be asbestos-containing material. The fragments were located between the equestrian area and Rotary Pines, near to the dirt mounds and Morses Creek footbridge. Given the proximity of some of the mountain bike trails to the area in question, I wanted to get a message out to the Alpine Cycling Club about the actions we are taking in response to this report.
An experienced member of Council’s staff has visited the site and collected a number of samples of material which have been sent off for testing. We have sought advice from a specialist consultant and on the basis of this advice we have cordoned off the area in question and installed advisory signage as a precaution. We have engaged a licenced inspector who will visit the site next week to carry out a detailed inspection. We will follow the advice of the inspector in relation to the further actions that we take, which might include adjusting the area we have cordoned off.
I will keep you informed next week on the further actions that we will be taking following the site inspection. In the meantime, if you or any of your members would like additional information, please feel free to contact me directly via this email address or on the number below.
Thanks, and I hope you are all out enjoying the great weather today!
Regards,
Will

Given this advice we have taken the decision to close the following trails until the Alpine Cycling Club receives advice there is no risk to use these trails again,
Rock Ya Shocks
The Highway
The newly built Pump track
The river trails will be along Morse’s creek we understand the Alpine Shire are addressing.
