Description:
Huge grizzly bear charged us at the summit of Castle Pass. Give that guy some space and keep your bear spray handy.
From the summit of Castle Pass down across the flank of Fortress Ridge, trail is visible and in okay condition (although you're often fighting to not slide down the slope). About halfway down, both before and after the marmot ponds, the trail disappears in the meadow and trees (some flagging would help here). As you finally start getting some decent descending towards the end, there is much blowdown, meaning you're constantly getting off your bike to lift it over huge trees, or take awkward ride-arounds. Took us about 8 hours to get from the Paradise Creek/Relay Col junction, up and over Castle Pass, down Tyaughton Creek and back to the Paradise trailhead.
