Complete loop of the Butterfield Trails in the direction and order the network was built to ride. Start at the parking area on the corner of Butterfield Road in North Montpelier. Head out Creamery, stay right on Upper BS, continuing to climb. Take a sharp left at the top of the climb and descend a traversing line, bearing left at a junction for s short loop. Close the loop and climb left then descend and take a right onto Lower BS at the bottom of the hill. Follow Lower BS until it rejoins the bottom of Upper BS and follow this straight to a junction with Chanterelle on the right. Descend over a couple low jumps on Chanterelle which can be rolled, then climb to Crossover which bears left. Crossover crosses two bridges, with a technical short climb after the second bridge which takes you to a four-way junction. Stay straight and bear right on Orchard (sign) which descends through softwoods, crosses an open area then descends more before climbing back on itself to a corner of an open field. Descend back into the woods, a small jump clears some roots, then ride a skinny in an open area and climb into another wooded section. Take a sharp left on a switchbacking climb then soon bear left again. Follow the arrows as the trail loops around itself before climbing up to the namesake orchard. Briefly join a previously ridden section before baring left into an open area along a fence line. Cross a series of boardwalks then climb to the end of Orchard. Bear left uphill on Grassy Knoll. The trail descends briefly with a small jump that can be passed on the right before climbing switchbacks to the namesake grassy knoll, the highest point in the network. Descend and hit a double jump which can be avoided to the left then continues descending over a series of jumps that can be avoided on the left. Speed through the four-way intersection and descend Gorge. The trail hits a small double and hip jump that can be avoided to the right. Continue along the edge of the gorge and through a snaking section and along the edge before turning sharply to the right and climbing Double Up. Climb Double Up, with a brief descent in the middle to the edge of a field. Go straight onto Pet Cemetery and at the top of a small hill descend to the right. A fast descent ends with a small double that can be avoided on the left then follow arrows on a climb back to the top. Bear right and ride or jump through a tree then descend to a large step down that can be avoided on the left and speed to a step up at the bottom of the hill that can be avoided on the right. Follow the trail straight at a junction and balance along a section perched above the gorge. Rejoin Double Up and climb to the top again. Turn left at the field corner and follow Mind the Gap. 30 yards down the descent, bear right to hit the gap jump or avoid it to the left. A short climb leads to the final steep descent then follow a mowed trail out to Butterfield Road then turn left and head back to wards the parking area, bearing left off the road for a final short section of single track.
