Diano Terre Blu

The name Terre Blu [Blue Lands] was created in 2002 to name the first edition of the MTB granfondo, a race going across the entire amphitheatre of the Dianese gulf. The name 'Terre Blu' came to mind because you can spot the sea from each place along the route, but also because the weather conditions of the western Ligurian coast enable you to ride for much of the year under blues skies.
The route starts from Cervo, a typical ancient village with a castle and with its very own 'caruggi' [alleys]. The first climb crosses the Ciappà County Park and takes you to Colle Dico, where you can enjoy the stunning panorama that on clear days can go as far as Gallinara island. From there, descend along an old mule-track to the hamlet of Chiappa, and then continue the descent along a dirt road that takes you to Molino del Fico. The second climb begins in the hamlet of Pairola: after an initial section on asphalt the track becomes single-track with some flow. It seems flat, but it is just an illusion! At the end of the trail, another dirt road begins: quite hard with a short, steep and challenging section near the top. At about 500 m of elevation you will come across one of the most famous trails in the Dianese gulf, known as Maiali, that you can take if you want to go back to S. Bartolomeo al Mare straight away. On the opposite, if you still have energy to spare, carry on along the loop Terre Blu, reach the next valley and ride along the single-track that goes across the slope until it reaches Evigno, the highest hamlet in the gulf. Just a last effort to reach Grillarine where the descent begins: the first section, down to Diano Gorleri, is on dirt road, but then it becomes a single-track, it passes through Oasi Park and reaches the coast at Diano Marina.
