Might be a converted horse trail, might be some kind of moto track, or might just be built for runners. Regardless, if you like this trail you're probably some kind of weird masochist with a twisted sense of fun.
Riding the entire loop clockwise is probably the most doable, but the downhill will be a short brake-locker. Riding counter-clockwise will present you with extremely steep hike-a-bike style climbs, and reward with a longer more flowy downhill. Its hard to say which direction is truly best, but unless you're superhuman you'll probably walk some of the uphill either way.
Parts of the trail have been beaten up by horses, and multiple tracks exist from their trampling. Also, watch out for large piles of crap in the trail...especially on the lower/faster sections.
