This trail was put in by the CCC during the depression. It is VERY popular for hikers and bikers so be very careful and give way to hikers.
At the top of the trail is one of the only old growth redwoods left in the area (thus the name "Big Tree") and is definitely worth the short side trail to go see it. (There is a sign)
