Year Opened2017
Borderline follows a well-worn network of game trails across the north slopes of the Similkameen Valley between the Nighthawk Crossing and Osoyoos, offering spectacular views of the Similkameen Gorge and Osoyoos Lake, or the Cascades and the dunes when traveling West.
The first (Western) two thirds of the trail rides mostly like a flowy XC line and isn't particularly technical, but an occasional steep descent or section of rock tech will keep you on your toes. This section is on a southern aspect through sagebrush and offers little shade, making it a great early morning ride in the Summer, and a great early/late season ride, too.
The last third of the trail dives into the trees for a few hundred meters of flowy turns in the shade before emerging onto a final descent through the sage.
A fantastic trail running or hiking line. Cyclists please give right of way, to both pedestrians and horses. Much of the trail is naturally twinned, providing easy right-of-way routes and an alternate climb trail for anyone wishing to access the start of the trail from the East. When in doubt, keep right.
NOTE: This trail runs very close to the Canada/US border in at least two spots. The fence is in obvious, and impossible to miss. DO NOT CROSS. The border is patrolled regularly from both sides, and even an accidental crossing carries a $5000 fine.
Access Info
To access from the West, you can ride along the two track south from Kilpoola Lake, taking the south Sagebrush Slopes fork (Kruger Mountain Road) until you reach the trailhead.
While there is no signage, East-West riders will find fairly obvious alternate climb lines available for most steep sections, or sections where downhill riders may be approaching with significant speed. Keep right, and you'll have an easier/safer climb.
This trail is unsanctioned.
