The start of Marlothii comes after a long climb. And Marlothii is primarily a descending trail, which gives a sense of anticipation as you cross the gravel road into the singletrack. Within a few seconds of the start you will pass the Giant Marlothii (Aloe) on your right. It’s worth at least slowing down – or stopping – for because it’s quite something Marlothii is an entirely singletrack track, which starts a little flat but then tilts down the slope for a very satisfying descent. There are several rock veins that you negotiate and it’s worth slowing down for each to ensure you pick the best line as it’s not obvious from the approaches. A couple of them include medium-sized rock drop-offs, which are fun to send, but only if you’re a competent rider. For most, rolling down a different line is recommended. Marlothii is part of the Grey Route.
