The top of Thieves Forest is very technical. It is a bit easier then Fire Swamp, but with a couple options at the top making close. There are some very difficult rocky sections and rooty drops into steep rocky turns that make this difficult up top. The trail tends to slowly get more tame as you progress down the mountain from the exposed rocks to more tight rooty areas through the trees.

Protective gear is recommended.

Only road upper section so won’t give a rating, but beware of tight turns through loose (and buried) shark fins that is pretty rough. More fun I’m sure if you are a really technical rider and can keep speed through the type of tight/droppy/rough terrain. Personally, much preferred the lower sections of Fire Swamp.

Good trail to ease into gnarlier technical riding. Only the first feature is hard really.

How the crap is the big drop at the top supposed to be done? It's a big ol' drop straigt into a loose, rubble-filled turn? Couldn't get myself to do that one. The rest of the trail rules.

As a baseline, I can do all the single blacks in DV without too much trouble. IMO, like Fire Swamp the upper section of TF is a double black due to the loose rock, steepness and large rock placements forcing you to really commit to a line. As one other user said, that first drop is nuts, would love to see someone do that. Had to walk a couple parts in the beginning. After the first section I could get down the rest of the trail. However it was not nearly as enjoyable as FS due to the amount of loose rock/soil. At times it was so deep I had both feet off the pedals to keep from sliding out. This really disrupted the flow of the trail for me. Serious DH technical riders would probably love the challenge.
