Yamamoribito is a community-based mountain biking organization in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, dedicated to revitalizing ancient trails and connecting riders with Japan’s unique natural, historical, and cultural landscapes.
We specialize in guided MTB tours along centuries-old “kodo” — historic pilgrimage and trade routes that once linked sacred mountains, shrines, and remote villages. These ancient singletracks, shaped by generations of human passage, provide a riding experience found nowhere else in the world.
Far from modern bike parks, our trails wind through deep cedar forests, rugged ridgelines, and forgotten mountain passes, offering both technical challenge and immersive cultural exploration. These routes are maintained with deep respect for their environmental and spiritual significance, and are generally accessible only via guided tours or club membership to ensure sustainability and local engagement.
We have also hosted and guided world-class riders such as Matt Hunter and Matty Miles, showcasing Japan’s ancient trails to the global MTB community.

Our organization works in close partnership with the Japanese national government and local municipalities to advocate for systemic improvement of mountain biking infrastructure across the country.
