The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District manages water resources and public lands across North and East Texas, providing a wide range of outdoor recreation opportunities at its lakes and reservoirs. Its recreation program includes an extensive collection of hiking, mountain biking, equestrian, running, and multi-use trails, ranging from short nature trails to long-distance trail systems.

Trail areas associated with the Fort Worth District include Bardwell Lake, with its extensive equestrian and multi-use trail system; Belton Lake, home to the Miller Springs trail system; Benbrook Lake, with trails along the lake and dam and connections to the Fort Worth Trinity Trails; and Canyon Lake, where the Old Hancock, Madrone, Overlook, and Guadalupe trails provide hiking, biking, and equestrian opportunities.

Other major trail areas include Georgetown Lake, home to the Goodwater Loop; Grapevine Lake, with the Northshore and Knob Hills mountain bike trails and several equestrian and hiking trails; Jim Chapman (Cooper) Lake, where trail systems are provided in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife; Lavon Lake, with the Trinity and Sister Grove trail areas; and Lewisville Lake, which has more than 50 miles of natural-surface and paved trails managed through partnerships with surrounding communities and other organizations.

The District's trail opportunities also extend to Proctor Lake, with non-motorized trails for hiking, equestrian use, mountain biking, and trail running; Ray Roberts Lake, where the Corps works with Texas Parks and Wildlife on recreation and natural-resource management, including the Greenbelt Corridor; Sam Rayburn Reservoir, where Corps property provides access to an equestrian trail system connecting with trails in Angelina National Forest; and Somerville Lake, where the Lake Somerville Trailway provides hiking, biking, and equestrian opportunities.

Additional trail opportunities are found at Stillhouse Hollow Lake, including the Dana Peak Trail; Town Bluff Dam and B.A. Steinhagen Lake, with hiking and biking trails at Magnolia Ridge and Sandy Creek and connections to trails at Martin Dies Jr. State Park; and Whitney Lake, where the Hopewell Trail and other trail areas provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian riding.

Trail management varies from one project to another. Some trails are located on Corps property and managed directly by the Fort Worth District, while others are operated through leases, cooperative agreements, or partnerships with state and local agencies and nonprofit organizations. This collaborative approach allows the District's public lands to support a broad range of trail-based recreation while accommodating local stewardship and management arrangements.

Across the District, trail users can find opportunities ranging from accessible nature walks and paved recreational trails to rugged singletrack, long-distance hiking and biking routes, and equestrian trail systems. Visitors should check the individual lake or recreation-area information before visiting for current trail conditions, closures, permitted activities, access requirements, and applicable fees.
