SORBA Chattanooga is the local chapter of the Southern Off‑Road Bicycle Association and serves as the primary mountain bike advocacy and trail stewardship organization for the greater Chattanooga region.
Our mission is to create, enhance, and protect great trail experiences for mountain bikers while working closely with land managers, community partners, and volunteers to build and maintain sustainable trail systems.
Through thousands of volunteer hours each year, SORBA Chattanooga maintains and advocates for trails across the region, including systems such as Enterprise South Nature Park, Raccoon Mountain, Walden's Ridge Park, Stringer's Ridge, and Five Point Recreation Area.
The chapter works in partnership with local governments, conservation organizations, and private landowners to expand responsible trail access and grow Chattanooga’s reputation as a premier outdoor destination.
In addition to trail building and maintenance, SORBA Chattanooga hosts group rides, trail workdays, volunteer training, and community events that connect riders and strengthen the local outdoor community.
Membership and volunteer support directly fund tools, trail improvements, and future trail development throughout the region.

SORBA Chattanooga posted an updateSORBA Chattanooga has been selected as one of four finalists in the Amflow Avinox Trail Advocacy Program, a national competition awarding $10,000 and up to three eMTBs to one trail association. The winner will be decided by riders: from now through November 12, 2026, every day riders log a ride on the Trailforks app counts as a vote for their chosen finalist. The association with the most votes takes home the grand prize.
If awarded, SORBA Chattanooga will invest the full $10,000 in trail restoration and wildfire mitigation at Stringer's Ridge Park, the 92-acre forested urban park two miles from downtown Chattanooga.
Why Stringer's Ridge
Stringer's Ridge was saved from condominium development in 2007 and is co-managed today by the City of Chattanooga, the City of Red Bank, and SORBA Chattanooga. The park sees roughly 75,000 visits a year, and the region's trail systems generate an estimated $6.9 million in local economic impact. That popularity has taken a toll: the 7-mile trail system has suffered from heavy traffic, erosion, and three recent wildfires.
SORBA Chattanooga's planned drainage repairs and hazard-tree removal complement the City's broader park initiatives, including targeted sheep grazing to control invasive species, and will deliver safer sightlines for visitors and more resilient trail infrastructure for the park's future.
“Tucked right between our Chattanooga and Red Bank neighborhoods, Stringer’s Ridge offers a true escape into nature just minutes from home, said David Johnson, City of Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors Administrator. “Continued investment in its trails and habitat ensures that runners, cyclists, hikers, and families with strollers can keep sharing this outdoor sanctuary for generations to come.”
“Stringer’s Ridge is where a lot of Chattanoogans ride, run, and hike for the first time, but it’s a 15-year-old trail system that has been damaged by fire and erosion,” said Sunshine Loveless, Executive Director of SORBA Chattanooga. “This grant would provide much-needed funding to address maintenance needs and make the ridge more resilient for the next fire season. To win, we need our community to step up and log their rides on Trailforks.”

SORBA Chattanooga plays a huge role in making the Chattanooga area one of the best mountain bike destinations in the Southeast. The chapter works closely with 11 different land managers and community partners to build and maintain high-quality, multi-use trails while keeping the riding experience front and center. Over the past 22 years the organization has helped create over 175 miles of mountain bike accessible trails within 30 minutes of downtown Chattanooga. There's something for everyone no matter your skill level or riding preference.
Sorba Chattanooga keeps things rolling on a place with so much singletrack. I’m able to hit about 70 miles of singletrack out my door. Sorba keeps things dialed in year round (even summer months when things get overgrown and after storms) to keep the people of this city happy. Came from another city that did not have the type of sorba employees they have here and wow! What a difference the right people can make. Chattanooga has year round trails and so many options. 5 stars all day!
