Join a group that knows the area and is happy for you to come along. The local bike shops or other mountain bikers can help you to be added to the Harare Social MTB email and WhatsApp groups. They ride every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning, and are open to anyone as long as you have a helmet, basic spares, and basic fitness. The rides may have some technical sections but are manageable by riders of most abilities.
There are several suggested Routes uploaded which you can follow.
The most popular areas to ride around Harare are from:
- ART Farm or Wingate Golf Club into Calgary Farm and towards Mazowe, Domboshawa and surrounds;
- from Chabwino Store on the Shamva Road towards Domboshawa and Ngomakurira;
- Chishawasha towards Arcturus.
During the rainy season the areas around Domboshawa, Ngomakurira, and Chabwino are best as the soil is more sandy and doesn’t get as muddy and slippery as the soils around ART Farm, Calgary Farm, towards Mazowe, and in the Chishawasha valley.
