Badlands BLACK that continues on, is ridable - but has not been cleared... still rideable but definitely still a bit overgrown.
It still has a few issues here and there, and in wetter days some areas along the track down by the river can get a bit muddy - but still passable. All the thorny overhang has been cleared, and overgrown parts of the trail have been cleared. There are still sections of the old trail that haven't been cleared, but there is at least one good MTB trail all the way along the trail now.
A few sections have A-Line and B-Line options, some of the B-Lines are just riding along grassy park/path. Some of the A-Lines are a lot more challenging, and have some high exposure points along steep edges and cliffs, side crash areas full of cactuses, rubbish, concrete blocks, and rocks hidden in grass... So don't crash off the trail if you can help it. The whole trail is a mix of GREEN easy park trail, BLUE single track with some more challenging riding and the A-Lines and a few sections I would consider BLACK with some really hard or high exposure sections.
But if you are in Melbourne inner areas, and you haven't got the time to travel out to one of the Trail Parks (Plenty Gorge, CandleBark Park, Lysterfield, or The You Yangs etc... ) and you want a slightly more challenging ride but more local that you can do in an hour or two... and ride to it on bikeways/easy trails... Merri Creek Singletrack is definitely on ave. a moderate/harder BLUE trail in the city area, that you can pair up with some other easier trails around that area for a bit of a ride! | Variable | view |

Where the trail is designated there is NO defined single track, or even compressed grass... it's just a big wide open rarely mowed grass area.
You are better off staying close to the top fenceline on the BLUE trail, as the GREEN trail you just ride down a thick grassy hill into the valley near the creek, and then have to ride out.. no trail to speak of really. | Variable | view |
| | Merri Creek Singletrack | Merri Bek | Mar 21, 2026 @ 5:00pm (Australia/Melbourne) Mar 20, 2026 | mtb This BLUE trail has various styles of trail along it.. open grassy areas (some unmowed and thick), other areas of dense single track, often with overgrown areas, some blackberry briars and thorny overhang, some parts of the trail are difficult to follow, or there are multiple routes as things got more over grown or fallen trees, there are also sections bypassable as some sections there is council slashed double track areas (but still not well maintained)..
Some of the old trail infrastructure is still in place and you can see where people have built the trail, support structures, rough pathways, rock support walls, but all of the trail has fallen into a no maintenance sort of vibe, where there is lots of overgrowth, and leaf litter and small branches etc. But it does look like some parts of the trail are still used by walkers/dogwalkers so they keep parts of the trail in a condition that it is still followable all the way round to the BLACK trail "Badlands"
