Aug 26, 2021 Sundance Trail Report

First 500m is community trail, in great shape. Next 1.5km is horse trail, wet, muddy across the whole trail width in many sections. Do not recommend riding - extremely sloppy mud and horse droppings as multiple trail rides come through daily. Last stretch to the end is paved, as it is joined from the paved portion via the Cave and Basin facility. Paved section to the trail end (Sundance Canyon) is easy, flat, mountain and pond vistas, with the last 800m at a mild but steady climb. Our group of 9 included a 6yo on a small bike, and she bikes most snd pushed a little. So worth it! Parks Canada picnic shack and washroom facilities near the end of the paved trail. Sundance Canyon was amazing! Beautiful and unexpected, there’s a great waterfall through the canyon. Make the short climb up the canyon to see a view and climb steps cut into the rocks I old water channels. So cool! We went a ways up, crossed 3 bridges, then got nervous about our unlocked bikes. There’s a big rack where the paved trail ends! Bring a cable and lock and plan to spend 15+ min (more if you have it!) exploring up the canyon on a well established trail.
