Description:
On 2/12/2022 I drove up the Redding Canyon Road as far as I could with my truck camper. You could drive further but I have a long wheelbase so I would high center on the water bars, if you had a short wheel base, like a jeep, you could drive to the end of the road where a mine and small aerial tramway over the canyon, used to bring ore out of the mine to the loading area, are located. This is the end of the road access but originally the road continued on as evidenced by double track for quite a distance. You will see the remnants of an old rock cabin near the end of this double track on your right. After I parked my truck, I rode my bike as far as I could and then walked another hour. I wanted to see what the double diamond was all about. If you watch the video on this site, you will see riders riding the two double black areas My hat is off to them for riding it, no way for me. There was still snow in the slot canyon and some other snow along the way. This slot canyon, triple black diamond in my opinion, is maybe 100' long and if I had to rate it in rock climbing terms, I would say is is fourth class because you need to use your hands to get up it. If we don't get more snow, this will be ridable shortly. I went above the slot canyon about a mile and the trail looked pretty mellow. Based on what I saw I would say the black diamond section lasted for 1/2 a mile
