Description:
Four of us recently rode the Centennial Trail (89) north to Sturgis from Hwy 16 near Mt. Rushmore, approximately 70 miles. It was a supported ride with Western Spirit Adventures out of Moab, Utah over a five day period. The trail was open, well marked and with minimal downfall. The first day was probably the hardest with some steep punchy climbs up and around some rocky pitches. I this section was not designed for mountain bikers but was short enough to make the rest of the section to Sheridan Lake memorable. Other than two sections of two track popular with the OHV crowd, the Centennial Trail offers some outrageously fun and flowy singletrack. I’d recommend it for the strong intermediate rider. Great camping at both lakes and Box Elder Creek along the route.
