Description:
Ride report from Aug 13, 2023. For the light use this trail receives it is is in solid shape from Shannon Campground until about 1 mile after the Heliograph trail junction. After that there is considerable overgrowth of locust, aspens and ferns in the middle 2 miles of trail. In some spots, the tread challenging to see and riders should use caution for what might be below. Volunteers have worked to eliminate many hazards like rocks and logs that were below the brush.

The lower 1.5 miles of trail is less overgrown with fast, fun flow.. The only consideration in this section is the Wet Canyon crossing which is steep, loose single track down into the drainage and then steed narrow switchbacks up out of the drainage to the other side where the trail picks back up. The last .5 mile into Arcadia camp is a ripper on rocky and loamy tread. There were NO down trees on the entire 5.5 miles of Arcadia as of this report. That's a first in 6 years.

SDMB and the USFS will be partnering on trail improve on Arcadia during Sept 2023. Expect this trail dramatically improve. If you are interested in helping please email [email protected]
