Description:
Most of the this trail is in old fire scars, so there is very little shade. The first mile is eroded double-track with babyhead-sized rocks and areas of overgrown vegetation. The rest of the trail is rocky (very little soil anywhere) with steep hike-a-bike sections for the first half. The portion of trail near Cold Springs has significant water erosion damage. We saw several Northern Pacific rattlesnakes in the middle of the trail, one of which was agitated and rattled at us. The final descent is rocky, technical, and fun. Bring more water than you think you need.
