Description:
I “rode” this trail for the first time yesterday, knowing I was in for a real masochistic treat. From Bluff Mountain Trail, the going was rough up top, including a fair amount of difficult hike-a-bike up rocky switchbacks that was pushing my limits. My partner had to carry his bike on his back the previous year in this section, so at least this year, the trail was more clear and I only had to carry it and push alongside me. I can’t imagine how someone would do this with a heavy e-bike. After the summit on Starway, the going is fun, with flowy loamy hiking trail, followed by steep, fast terror. I will admit, as someone who generally avoids double-blacks, I did walk a fair amount of downhill, too (tight switchbacks not designed for bikes, and prolonged steep descents), but my partner was able to ride much more. There were a handful of downed logs, but nothing too frustrating. Someone’s been keeping the trail fairly clear, but it was still pretty overgrown, especially if one is hiking a bike. This is off my bucket list… unsure if I would “ride” again!

Some 10”+ fallen logs. Mtn biked down but brakes were hot. Too steep to enjoy. Challenging but not worth the hike up with the bike. view
