Description:
6/27/25 I rode the loop up Goat Creek to Vanson Peak, then down Goat Mountain trail to Deadman's Lake then up and over Tumwater Mountain trail back to Goat Creek trail. Everything is snow free, but a couple of places probably melted out only a day or two ago. The whole route is good except Tumwater Mountain trail. There is enough deadfall up there to change it from the Typical Gifford Pinchot Backcountry adventure to total PITA status. I didn't count but there had to be maybe 20 good sized downed trees to lug my bike over (with of course the accompanying nasty branches). Plus more than it's fair share of downed smaller stuff which provided a steady supply of branches etc into my derailer and cassette. The two Creek crossings (at Goat Creek and a smaller creek a little later) were both easily navigated but definitely require wet feet. Let's just call it a type 2 fun kind of day.
