The first 20 yards from the trail head is basically a shallow stream but easy to walk around. One tree down around the 2 mile mark. Despite a lot of rain recently the trail is damp but not muddy. With the snow gate closed at Marble Mountain for the winter there’s a five mile, warm up to get to the trail head. This is actually a very good thing: no hikers, no crowds and only one other biker on this otherwise very popular trail. On days like this, you own the mountain :-) | Variable | view | |||

Midway down the descent, there are substantial sections that have watercourse issues and drainage debris on the trail surface. All rideable, but makes it much rowdier at speed. The bridge on FSR26 that others mentioned is almost done. It is located at 46.43077, -122.01464 on Crystal Creek. The bridge was in and crews were moving gravel and grading the transition. From Spirit Lake you have a tough loose ash/pumice hike-a-bike in a couple areas when ascending, but the ridge is awesome otherwise. We didn't find the trail brushy at all. Be aware, the Spirit Lake / Iron Creek road is closed Monday through Thursday for road construction and open at noon on Fri-Sun. Some the roots, rocks and technical log bridges were still a little slippery, but another day of warm temperatures will dry them out. One down tree (small, but it was wedged tightly between trees so we couldn’t move. A good folding trail saw would take care it) at mile 6-7 for Curly Creek TH. We opted to try to take the Old Cascade Trail instead of the PCT, but the trail has since been closed and grown over--so we relied heavily on our GPS to make sure we could link back up to the PCT. Aug 1, 2025 @ 6:52pm Aug 1, 2025 | mtb About 15-20 blowdowns now, honestly for this type of trail and how long it is they aren't too bad as they are scattered pretty evenly. 3-4 of the blowdowns are >24", none are bigger than about 32". The biggest one is on the West end of the trail before the Cispus lookout/meadows. The trail is getting very brushy in places here and there especially near the creeks between Jackpot and Saint John Lake and on the climb up from the West terminus to the meadow. Mosquitoes are epic. The loam is sublime, as is a swim in Saint John Lake. Someone motoed in at least the Eastern/Southern half and tore up some tread, especially in steep and switchback sections. I'd like to assume they cleared some blowdowns but rode around some pretty small ones.... There are also some sections with any increased use where narrow bench tread is falling away and will probably continue to turn into sidehilling after more traffic. There is a trail running event 8/8-8/12 per the signs up today, hopefully they do some brushing pre event but the extra traffic will definitely help with brush. | Ideal | view | |||
