Description:
Major Water drainage issue, large mud holes
This is such a beautiful area, with so little traffic/visitors, we rode for 7.5 hours and never saw another sole. It has been awhile since anyone has updated these associated trail report, so here are a few tidbits:
1. Have a change of clothes in your vehicle...you are going to get wet (and potentially muddy - we did). There are several creek crossings, some ride-able other required 2 feet in the water.
2. The trail maps and markings in front area (parking lot and main valley) are in good shape, but once you are a few kms in they have been scratched up (some unreadable), torn off (on the ground, if we were lucky), or missing completely. There are trail markers (note that some are a few kms apart from one another), but even then most are not marked with trail name information...so we spend most of the day guessing which trail we were on. I would recommend, that until someone can get back there and update these, a GPS or the area Gem Trek topo map should be in your pack.
3. Trail conditions...
a. With all the recent rain, there were several segments of the loop that are under water and required re-routing either due to the depth of the pools of water or the amount of mud that stands where the horses have passed.
b. There are several downed trees (some have been there for a while), we moved a few of the smaller one, but a chainsaw will be required to clear up a few, so watch yourself on the downhills..
