Rode this as an extension to John Nicholas but not really that interesting and quite a bit of hikers.

I've been riding this trail since I first started mountain biking three years ago. Great for beginners but still one of my favorite trails as I've progressed.

Great trail, just enough chonk to keep it interesting and it flows smoothly like a racetrack. Defenitely worth the climb!

Trail Sunny Jim
Tough ascent on the south side. It’ll kick you butt, but it’ll be over soon.

Loved this trail! Went the day after it had rained and the trail was already nice and dry. The climb up is nice and long, reminds me of Tiger Mountain in Washington state. Doable for all kinds of bikers. The way down is fast and windy, which is fantastic! Be careful with hikers though. It’s a shared trail. We had to hard tails going up but we saw e-bikes and full suspensions on the trail. Good for a kinds. We took out time, so went up in about 1 hour. But others went up much faster.

I like the regraded trail. If I want technical, I’m going to Demo/Niscene, UCSC, or Skeggs anyways. This trail has always been about convenience to SV and “flow”, and it’s even better now.

I have parked at the end of Sanborn and ridden to the top with the benches overlooking the valley 19/30 days this month. 5.9 miles out and back. 1500 feet of elevation change. It’s literally all downhill on the way back to the car when you park on Sanborn. Ride up as far as you can. When you’re tired there are benches along the way. Work your way up and any time you decide you’re tired just turn around and coast back to the car! This can be a FAST trail with great berms and some natural jumps. Some parts are definitely not for beginners. There are fast technical sections with roots, rocks and then it goes into switchbacks, there are huge high speed sweeping turns between Douglas furs and redwoods. There are some tight spots on some fast bumpy sections where you have to go between trees. I always try to push myself a little more each time. This is like the Nurburgring of mtb trails.

Trail Sunny Jim
The south side is recently graded and now a safer descent. But still steep to climb. No shade on the south side.

Beware of park rangers issuing speeding tickets near the ranger station, especially heading north on the downhill section

Super fun trail for what it is. This is the perfect trail to take someone on their first ride on; they will love it! Some fun turns for you too.

Trail Sunny Jim
Think of Sunny Jim as more like Sonny Liston. On the climb, Jim is going to hit you hard right away, let you hang on the ropes a little bit, and then go for a middle to late round knockout. What this climb lacks in length, it makes up for in gradient. If you like a quick shot of pain, this is your trail.
